“No Comment” is Good TV : by Steve Atkinson

We’ve had number of sensational stories lately at our tv station. It’s not like we’re out to get people we just happen to be investigating questionable characters who have no idea how to deal with the media. For example, we took our camera into a mail box store a few weeks ago to get a comment from a woman who was involved in a horrible scam against an elderly woman. All she would say is, “no comment.” You might think “no comment” keeps you from being on tv but it’s what we live for. She might as well have said “Yea, I screwed the old broad around. What are you going to do about it?” The only thing we love more is when a guy puts his hand over the lens of the camera and shouts, “Get that #*!*-ing camera out of my face!” Wooo Hooo! That guy’s guaranteed to be on the 11 O’clock news and we’ll run promotions all day with the same material just so everybody knows to watch.

Look, it’s not rocket science but there is a very simple and proper way to deal with the media. Do you know what to do if a television, newspaper, or even radio reporter calls to ask for an interview? Are you ready and do you know how to prepare yourself for the three different types of media?

If not, Media Image Partners can help. We not only train you how to deal with the media we coach you so you feel confident to do your job and represent your company in positive way.
