Another Successful Class and More to Come :by Steve Atkinson
A big thank you to all those who attended Saturday’s Media Training Class.
We hope you left with a better understanding of what the media is looking for when it calls those of you in the corporate world for an interview. And more importantly, we hope you left with a number of tips that will help you in conducting that interview.
Just remember keep your message positive, concise, and clear. You may prepare four or five answers and think each one will be used. But keep in mind that you are simply one small piece of a very fast moving puzzle. Think about it this way, let’s say a newscast is 30 minutes long. Each newscast has four commercial breaks about two minutes long so subtract eight minutes from the content. Take away another four minutes for weather and another two or three for sports. Take out another minute or so for what we call intros, teases, and bumps. That leaves only 15 minutes of actual news content to tell what happened in the world today.
All of a sudden your message better be clear and quick or it might get cut altogether.
Make sure what you say is so important and strong that the producers just have to have it in the show and remember those key words that make your message stand out from all the rest.

When I left the MIP On-Camera Bootcamp on Saturday I said to my actor friends “This is what we have been looking for!”. Working on TV and Radio in San Diego, I haven’t found classes that could take my career to the “next level”. Now San Diego has a true player- Media Image Partners. The MIP Bootcamp is the real deal. I met pro’s that work in the business (successfully !), and they taught industry secrets that performers just don’t get access to. Their On-Camera Bootcamp is the entertainment industries equivalent to “The Secret” for making your career happen. Thank you to MIP for letting me in on your collective experiences and expertise. I’ll for sure be back for more!
